The Carly, a boutique hotel in Oregon wine country, recently underwent a full patio transformation in partnership with AllModern. The owners aimed to create a lasting outdoor oasis for guests and private events, and the result is a modern yet inviting space designed to withstand the region’s climate. The project was driven by the need to maximize the property’s outdoor usability, particularly as the warmer months approach.
Durable Materials for Pacific Northwest Weather
The key to success was selecting furniture built to withstand the damp conditions of the Pacific Northwest. The team chose a powder-coated black aluminum set paired with gray outdoor fabric; this combination provides a subtle contrast that integrates the space into the surrounding wooded landscape while ensuring durability. Unlike lighter materials, this set is designed to avoid excessive dirt accumulation and maintain a high-end appearance despite the elements.
The furniture’s design prioritizes longevity. Seat cushions are firm and engineered for extended use, and the aluminum frame ensures structural integrity. The selection of heavy, high-quality side tables further reinforces the space’s upscale feel.
Integrating Nature Through Planters
To enhance the outdoor experience, the patio was framed with potted plants sourced from Dennis’ 7 Dees and planters from AllModern. A mix of large ceramic and lightweight, metal-look planters provide a layered effect, with options for both smaller and larger plantings. The strategic placement of plants creates a sense of enclosure, effectively defining the outdoor area as an extension of the interior space.
The planters themselves were chosen for their practicality: wide, deep designs accommodate substantial trees or shrubs, while taller models feature internal shelves to reduce soil requirements.
Dining Area and Finishing Touches
A black aluminum dining table with stackable chairs was added to accommodate larger gatherings. The chairs, made from durable resin, are designed for easy storage during off-season months, a critical feature for properties that need to maximize space. The table’s design allows rainwater to drain freely, simplifying cleanup after storms – a frequent occurrence in Oregon.
The dining area was further styled with unbreakable outdoor plates, glasses, and napkins from AllModern, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic cohesion. The set was completed with outdoor pillows for warmth and texture.
A Weather-Resistant Design
The project was completed just before an unexpected downpour, which highlighted the benefits of the weather-resistant materials. The metal and resin construction proved easy to wipe clean, demonstrating the practicality of the design.
The success of the transformation lies in the careful selection of materials that blend seamlessly with the natural environment while prioritizing durability and ease of maintenance.
The updated patio at The Carly provides a versatile outdoor space that is ready for both casual gatherings and larger events, solidifying its position as a destination for luxury retreats and weddings.
